Spring Update

We are now well and truly into Spring so we think it’s about time we kept you all up to date with what’s going on here at Mohill EnterpriseCentre.  It’s been a busy year so far particularly with regard to the various different training courses that are currently ongoing.

As you might know, Mohill Computer Training runs various different Computer Application courses for people of all abilities, from Beginners up to Advanced Users.  Our flagship programme is our QQI Level 5 Full-time Computer Applications for the Workplace course but we also place a great emphasis on empowering newbie’s in the use of computers and in Information and Communication Technology in general.  So, here’s the update on what’s been happening.

Training

Full Time Course – QQI Level 5

The full-time class have completed the Information and Communication System and Programming modules and are currently completing  eBusiness Studies.  They also enjoyed a week off after Easter to refresh themselves for the rest of the year.

Information and Communications naturally follows Databases. Learners have to analyse a database using existing skills. The module also incorporates some practical elements via a Skills Demonstration where they had to make VOIP (Skype) calls, publish a Blog page, publish a Postcast and a YouTube video and indulge in some Social Media.

Programming & Design Principles

The rapid and continued growth of the Software industry has meant that the Software sector is currently experiencing a shortage of qualified software engineers. To this effect, the Programming & Design Principles module provides Learners with a solid introduction in the principles of designing software solutions to real-world problems using a user-friendly, high-level programming language within an Integrated Development Environment.

Participation in this module gives Learners an appreciation for the challenges faced and the rewards gained from software design and testing. On completion of the Programming & Design Principles module Learners will have acquired the skill set necessary to continue further down the path of software development should they wish to do so.

eBusiness

Having an online presence and being able to integrate Information Technology with existing business practices is becoming increasingly important in the present time. The QQI Level 5 eBusiness module addresses the issues that small businesses encounter when trying to keep track with current technology trends.  It raises awareness of the practicalities, requirements and challenges that businesses must face if they want to keep pace with their competitors.

The module focuses on the importance of the Internet and how its many services (communication, Web, SCM and CRM) enable businesses to improve their efficiencies.  It provides participants with understanding and appreciation of what is required to design a consumer-focused heuristic website that will drive user traffic to the site and ultimately lead to conversions. Focus is spent investigating how business websites can be improved through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and how the various different online marketing channels (SEM, social, video and email) can be used to raise brand awareness thereby improving business performance.

Next up from the end of May is Web Authoring where a number of key skills will be utilized in order to create and finally publish a complete web site. The site is designed to showcase individual work and design skills. It will involve getting to grips with HTML (the code behind web pages), CSS (styling web pages) and  Dreamweaver will be used to create pages and sites.
