Part-Time Computer Courses

QQI Accredited BTEI (Back To Education Initiative) Programme

Our part-time programme is divided into two streams, a Beginners Computers course at QQI Level 3 and an Intermediate Computers course at QQI Level 4, and tuition is free to people or their spouses who are in receipt of a Social Welfare payment for both of these courses.

We also have a separate part time Design Skills and Digital Fabrication course that is approximately 10 weeks long and covers basic design techniques and learning how to use 3D printing technology and other fabrication methods.

Below are further details about our BTEI programme courses.

Beginners (Level 3)

Beginners QQI Level 3  course that usually runs twice a year.
The course runs for four days a week (Mon-Thurs 10am-1pm) for 4 weeks and you will learn the following subjects:

  • Computer Familiarisation
    – The Computer
    – Mouse
    – Keyboard
  • Managing Your Computer
  • Basic Word Processing
  • Introduction to Excel
  • Using the Internet
  • Using E-mail


Intermediate (Level 4)

Intermediate QQI Level 4 course and is usually run for a 6 month period.
The course runs for four days a week (Mon-Thurs 10am-1pm) and you will learn the following list of subjects in 4 week individual modules:

  • Concepts of Information Technology
  • Using the Computer and File Management
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Communications
  • Work Experience
  • Mathematics
  • Web Design



Design Skills and Digital Fabrication (Level 5)

  • The History of Design.
  • Understanding and Interpreting Design Briefs.
  • The Concepts of Design Practice.
  • Material and Manufacturing Processes.
  • The Tools of Visualisation and Presentation.
  • 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design.
  • Digital Fabrication Tools and Fab Labs.
